Why Invest in Artificial Grass?

Low Maintenance

One of the benefits of false grass that leads many people to switch from the real thing is the minimal maintenance required. Unlike natural grass that requires moving, watering and fertilising to keep it green and healthy, artificial grass stays perfect all year round.

Durable for Year-Round Use

All of our artificial grass is made from a durable synthetic material that is designed to stand strong in all types of weather from wind and rain to summer sunshine. With UV resistance, your grass will stay green and firm under the sun, whilst streamlined drainage prevents pooling in heavy rainfall. Extreme weather like snow also stands no chance against false turf, staying fresh and green, unlike natural grass.

Eco-Friendly Alternative

Despite what many people think about synthetic lawns, switching to artificial grass can have some environmental benefits. Real grass needs fertilising and this releases harmful chemicals and pesticides into the environment. As artificial grass stays pristine in all conditions, you can reduce your carbon footprint and reduce water waste by making the switch to the synthetic alternative.

Versatile

You might think that artificial grass is only for gardens, but in fact, it has a wide range of uses. You can transform any outside area from balconies to patios into a luscious green haven with false turf. You can even use it indoors as a stunning decorative artificial grass wall.

Cost Effective

Paying for all the maintenance costs involved in trimming, fertilising and watering a natural grass garden can rack up some hefty costs over the years and this is what leads people to neglect their real grass. With artificial grass, you’ll be able to save a lot of money in the long run due to the minimal maintenance needed to keep synthetic turf in pristine condition.

    Frequently Asked Questions

    Why choose artificial grass?

If you want to enjoy your outdoor space without the upkeep of real grass, artificial grass might be the solution for you. With installation taking a matter of minutes, you’ll have a green garden with no upkeep in no time.

Artificial grass is resistant to all weather conditions and can withstand the sun's heavy rays so your lawn will look fresh all year.

How long does artificial grass last?

Our artificial grass has been designed to stand the test of time. When installed properly and maintained, you can enjoy a false lawn that lasts years. If you need some help with your artificial grass installation, check out our DIY installation guide! Alternatively, we can also help you find a fitter to install your turf for you.

There are of course factors that influence the condition of your turf, such as frequency of use and extreme weather, but with some extra TLC, you can keep your lawn looking fresh for over a decade.

    How much is artificial grass?

The pricing of artificial turf will vary based on the area of ground you wish to cover and the type of grass you select. At Grass Direct, we’re dedicated to providing value for money, so whatever grass you choose you’re guaranteed to get a great product whatever your budget.

How do you care for artificial grass?

Artificial grass is easy to care for, with only a few minimal maintenance steps to keep it looking fresh and green for years to come. Give your grass an occasional sweep or use a leaf blower to remove debris like loose leaves and twigs from trees.

Brushing will also help to fluff up the grass fibres and keep them looking natural. If you’ve got pets, never leave their waste on the grass and always make sure to rinse it off with water to prevent bacteria and bad smells.

What do you put under artificial grass?

Before you lay your artificial grass you’ll need to set down some substrate to allow for proper water drainage. This can be a layer of crushed gravel or limestone that’s then pressed firmly to allow water to pass through and absorb into the ground. You should also invest in some artificial grass underlay for an added layer of protection and comfort underfoot.

How do you prepare the ground for fake grass?

If you’re laying artificial grass on concrete or stone, there isn’t much prep needed. If however, this false turf is replacing your real grass garden your natural grass will need to be removed. All of the grass and a layer of soil underneath will need to be removed and the existing soil compressed to give you a base to lay your substrate, underlay and then false grass.

How do you lay artificial grass?

Laying artificial grass is a simple job even for DIY beginners. The process is quick and fairly straightforward and can be completed in a day with the help of friends or family members and our expert step-by-step guide. It’s important to note however that it does require some heavy lifting and strenuous work like digging, so if this is something you’re not able to do you may need to ask for help or hire a professional fitter.

Do you need underlay for artificial grass?

If you’re working on a hard surface like stone or concrete it’s especially important to have an artificial grass underlay installed before you lay your grass to ensure there is an adequate water drainage system in place. Whilst this isn’t as important when laying grass on soil, it’s still recommended to provide more support underfoot and an extra layer of water drainage.
